Orange light in place of red recording light?

A few minutes ago I had something that I've never seen before...

I was recording SMALLVILLE and watching it on about a 20 minute delay. I glanced at the machine for a second (no reason) and saw the red light was out.

GAH!!!

Then, the light was orange for a moment, then for a few seconds red and orange alternated (possibly with a second or two of no light), and then it was red again and all was well.

I ran the recording forward to about two minutes before "live", and began to watch.

Aside from a little interference on the cable signal which didn't cause the recording to hiccup or skip (just lines on the screen), nothing seemed to be wrong.

I just did a forum search for "orange" and "orange light" but can't find anything.

With my manuals having been lost (last year?), I couldn't check there to see what the orange light is, so the one option is to ask you guys.

What would an orange light in place of red for record or yellow for phoning mean?

Was it trying to make a call while recording, so the light turned orange?

That LED will turn orange when the phone is also in use. No problem.

Yellow + red = orange.

Was the orange light was on the left side or right side? Obviously the left-hand orange light is the remote signal indicator. Even when the red and yellow on the right-hand side are on together (on my S2s) they are distinguishable, they don't combine into orange (though I don't use a phone line and I usually keep the LEDs off, so it's been a while since I've seen this).

As mentioned, it was the red recording light (right side) that turned orange.

It absolutely wasn't yellow. I know the yellow from seeing the machines desperately trying to call out when I've got the phone line disconnected from them. :p

Maybe the first reply is right? Trying to phone while recording equals an orange light?

When I use the remote, my left light goes from green to yellow, not orange.

Yes - phone + recording (red+yellow) = orange

Too bad that it's not possible to record something and force a daily call at the same time to see what the lights do. :rolleyes:

i have the same orange light on my Tivo 2. mine is not blinking. it's a solid orange light in place of the recording light. there is nothing recording at the moment so it is not Recording + calling. Does Anyone know what this is?

A lot has changed in the 2+ years of this thread. I'm not sure but I believe a software change altered the way the front panel LEDs work.
