I have a JVC tv that is about 8 years old that does not have any A/V inputs. I have a digital cable box, a Sony surround sound and a Nintendo 64 hooked up. Currently the surround sound and the Nintendo are hooked up by an A/V switchbox. Can someone help me to hookup up all of these things including my new dual recorder Tivo box where they all play nicely together?

You'll have to provide more details.

How many and what kind of inputs & outputs does each of these things have?

The Sony DVD has both input & output A/V connections. Both are being used - one from the digital cable box and one to the switch box. The digital cable box uses the cable coming from the wall and has another cable going to the back of the tv. The N64 has one A/V connection that goes to the switch box.

OP from your description I can't see how the N64 or DVD could ever work even before you add the Tivo unless trhe switch box is also an RF modulator similar to this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5481481&type=product&id=1051826216013) in which case how many inputs does it have and how many are currently in use?

The switch box is a basic one that does not an additional input like the link you sent me to BB. I thought I might need one of these but I was unsure what was needed I didn't want to buy something expensive only to find out later that I couldn't return it and it still didn't work. Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try.

The key is that the linked switch box has AV In and RF out so it converts the AV signals from DVD, Digi Box and Tivo to an RF signal that your TV can tune to.

My switch box is a 4-Way Audio/Video Selector Switch
from RadioShack. It does not have an RF in or out. It only has 4 AV inputs and 1 AV output, which is why I have been so confused trying to hookup my Tivo. I tried the Tivo on another tv (newer) that had A/V inputs and it works perfectly but I really want it on the main TV (with no A/V inputs)

So go back to Radioshack and get one of these (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103096&cp=2032057&f=Taxonomy%2FRSK%2F2032057&categoryId=2032057&kwCatId=2032057&kw=modulator&parentPage=search) hook the output of the AV switch to input of the RF Modulator and then send the RF out into the TV. Hook the AV out from Tivo into the AV switch along with DVD, Cable Box and N64

So I should get the DVD Install Kit instead of the Switcher with RF Modulator, right?

Either will work. Since you already have a switch the "DVD Install Kit" which is just an RF Modulator and some cables packaged together is the cheaper option. The switcher with RF modulator is a cleaner solution at a higher price. On the other hand if your 8yr old TV fails, the RF Modulator can be dropped and the AV out from the switcher can be sent to a new TV with AV inputs.

Time to upgrade the TV. :D

Sorry, but someone had to say it.
