I know you can use wireless to transfer tivo files to PC, and you can also use phone line. Well I don't have any of that (well phone line, but I don't want to use that, too slow). Is it possibly to transfer files from Tivo to PC using a direct Ethernet connection? Or USB? Also would it be possibly to plug a USB External Hard Drive into the Tivo and transfer the files to that?

AFAIK you have to get a USB network adapter to plug into the back of the TiVo (you have a Series 2 w/ a USB out?) so you can plug in an ethernet cable. I have a Linksys USB200M. Then you can connect your TiVo to a router, switch, hub whatever. I don't know if you want to jack directly into you PC whether you need patch cable or a crossover cable. If you don't have wi-fi and don't feel like stringing Cat-5 all over your house, you can get one of those ethernet links which uses the AC outlets in your house.

You can only transfer over a network connection, either wired (ethernet) or wireless, bother requiring appropriate USB network adapters, except on the DT, which has built in ethernet.
You cannot transfer to a USB HDD connected to the TiVo, or with USB transfer cables.
