I have to call D* to get a replacement. 22 days old....

Can I change out the drives so I don't lose my info without D* knowing?

The drives are "married to the receiver, unfortunately. You may be able to swap the HDMI cards and keep your old receiver, though. I believe that there are 2 types of HDMI cards so you will have to look at them.

Did you switch your audio output to dolby 5.1 by accident? Both of my 10-250 setups have different issues with dolby digital over HDMI which force me to use optical outputs.

Just a thought.

Yes, but not by accident. I have it set to to DD so I can watch things with my HTS.
The audio via HDMI ONLY does not work with OTA HD signals and D* HD signals.

D* SD channles work, but OTA SD does not. Now the optical outputs works when using the HT reciever. Also the RCA Audio out works when pluged in the the TV.

If the DD is turned off, the Audio is fine.

This is how I have it set-up:

- HDMI to the TV.
- Optical Audio Out to the HT reciever.

A D* tech was out here and sadi that the HDMI Audio output is not working properly and I need a new unit. But after soem other crap he told me, I wonder if this guy even new what he was doing.

Doesn't sound like it. This ought to be in a faq or sticky or something.

Odds are, there is NOTHING wrong with the HR10-250. Far more likely that your TV does not have a DD decoder (most don't). Your HR10-250 is sending DD2.0 or DD5.1 audio up the HDMI cable, but the TV has no idea what to do with it.

Add RCA out to your TV, or just use the HT receiver (I haven't ever turned on the built-in speakers of my TV since I got the darned thing).

No, the TV has a DD decoder or so I think. The setting on the TV are set up for HDMI Audio on DIGITAL.

The TV has a Digital OUT feature also.

The TV is a Panasonic TH-42PX60U
I will call and ask Panasonic about it.

I have to agree with cheer. This problem has been discussed a lot around here and most of us have the same issue. You have to either only use the receiver, or shut off the Dolby Digital. However, there is no harm in having them send you a new unit to prove this. Just don't send in the current unit until after you receive the new one. That way when you see the same problem with the replacement, you can just send it back and you won't lose your recordings.

Thanks I will try that. That seems like crap on the units part. Is not one of the nice things with HDMI, that it carries a digital signal to your TV?

I am finding out now from Panasonic what is going on.

EDIT: I just got of the phone with Panasonic. The TV CANNOT process the 5.1 sound. Now If I use the DIGITAL OUT on the TV and the signal coming in from D* or OTA is in 5.1, it will send that signal to the reciever. So I guess it's do what you guys said and nothing is wrong.

Thanks!

I can tell you from personal experience that the Pannys do NOT have a DD decoder.

The digital out is so that if you hook up ATSC or QAM that carries DD you can output it to a receiver that can decode it.

Cheer, thanks for the info and I found this out. It does have some type of "surround" mode but that's it. the newer model has this BBE® ViVA HD3D Sound.

Thanks!

Just to be clear, neither one of those things is a Dolby Digital decoder.
