View Full Version : Newbie: My 10250 died within hours?!
Okay,
First, I tried several searches but did not find anything that resembles my problem.
I just bought/leased a new 10250 and swapped it out with my RCA 80. All the cables were connected the same way. I also attached and am using the HDMI output. 2 sat in plus ant input as well.
I called in DTV earlier today and everything was working well. I then inputted the info for it to call in... you know *70 etc.
Well, now my Tivo wont turn on. Nothing lights up (ie format 480,720,1080). No image or sound is sent out.
What gives? Was there a problem with the update?! What should I do?
I highly doubt my Tivo went out that fast.
BTW, I already checked the cables. Nothing was changed since earlier in the day when it was working. Power is good too.
TIA,
Dan

Can you hear the hard drives and/or fan spinning up inside the receiver?

Try unplugging it for 30 sec. and see if it restarts normally. If not, ask for a replacement.
fan is moving. not sure about the hard drive.
I tried unplugging it for 2 hours. After plugging it back in, I felt the fan spinning again. The hd start spinning but I heard what sounds like a skipping record every second over and over again.
Am I supposed to push a button for it to turn on? Or does this thing sound dead?
Again, Thanks for the help

Nope, there's no button, just the power cord. The drive sound you hear is most likely a head seek as it tries to boot...and fails miserably.
"He's dead Jim" Call in and report the DOA unit and have them ship you out a new one.
When it works, you'll love it!
Good luck!

Are you sure it didn't go into standby mode? This is normal for any DTivo when you first power it up. Press either the DirecTV/Tivo button or the Live TV button and see what happens. OTOH, you should at least see the green LED indication for the resolution setting, even when the unit is in standby.
Yeah, there's no light, nothing.
I assume it's dead. I'm getting a new replacement tomorrow when it's back in stock at CC. I sure hope the next one lasts alot longer. I purposely got this model because I fear the new Directv HD PVR will suck. I have a total of 4 pvrs. 3 of them are Tivo and 1 DTV pvr. The DTV unit is awfully designed with regard to it's user interface. It is not intuitive at all. Still haven't figured out how to to get a 'season pass' and I refuse to open the manual. I think it should be easier than that.
Manufacturer's should take note of intuitive interfaces like those found on:
Tivo
Ipods
Harmony Remotes
Make it easy and people will love it. Simple as that.
