I have a 40 hr Tivo sitting in my garage. I don't want to hook it up to another TV. It just won't be used.

I was thinking.. Can I take the HDD out and put it in my new 80 hr DT Tivo?

Yes, a HD is a HD.

It is probably not worth putting a used hard drive in a TiVo. When you have multiple drives, the chance of failure increases. In addition, if either drive fails, the TiVo will not work. You will not know which drive is bad unless you can spot the problem with the manufacturer diags. The best solution for a TiVo is a single larger hard drive.

You can, but it is not worth adding those small drives together for the risk.

My T60 had a new 120G Maxtor and an old heavily used 20G WD. Ironically, the Maxtor died and the WD is still kicking hard.

But the answer to your question is still yes, you can use that drive.

Personally I would probably use it in my PC though.
