I have a 540040A with a 40GB Drive. I have installed the Weaknees kit for two hard drives. I want to add an WD320GB to the 40GB and keep the recordings on the 40GB drive. I have a PC I can use and have put MS Tools 2.0 on a CD.

Question: What commands and procedure do I use to set up this hard drive to be seen by the TiVo and get a Swap command to reflect at least 19MB swap file?

Thanks for your help.

Steve,

I can't answer your question so I apologize for that.

That said, I really can't see any reason at all to want to keep 2 drives in your Tivo. Extra heat, extra cost, extra hassle. 320 GB will probably never fill up, and an extra 40gb is really not going to help that much even if you do fill it.

You can easily replace the 40gb drive with your new 320 gb drive and just move everything currently on your 40 gb drive to the replacement. This method serves a second purpose in that your 40gb drive can be saved as a backup and reinstalled if you ever have a problem.

You can read how I did it with the 540040 by clicking on the link in my signature. Welcome to tivo modding.

Rick has offered you some sound advice. When that 40gb drive dies (and they all do eventually), you will be left with a 320gb drive that is useless until you reimage it. When drives are 'married' and one fails, the good drive is useless.

Another concern would be noise... 2 drives would definitely be louder than 1.

I'd go with copying the data from the 40gb to the 320gb drive as advised.

Also, use the LBA48 aware boot CD from weaknees.com or from ptvupgrade.com.

Again, I must agree here.

Now, if you were going to marry 2 500GB drives, or even 2 250GB drives, I might see the point here, but adding 320 to 40 I just cannot suggest. Not to mention that risking your factory TiVo drive is just not worth it IMO. I keep mine in the box my upgrade drive came in just in case.
