I just got off the phone with a D* Customer Retention guy. He said the new HDDVR will be available to subscribers in the Tucson and Colorado Springs service area starting Aug. 16. He said these two markets will be test markets before general release in the fall. He couldn't tell me if HD locals will become available at the same time. He didn't think I would be required to trade in the HR10-250. I wonder if he is just blowing smoke. If this old information, I appologize.

Well that's the first concrete date I've seen anywhere on TCF, but all of the media reports I've seen had the first MPEG4 HD-DVRs scheduled for rollout in L.A.

Don't hold your breath on the Tucson and Colorado Springs part of that statement.
The HR20 is going to be release to the LA DMA first... (for a variety of reasons).
Then it will continue.
What www.dbstalk.com for the latest and greatest news on the HR20

Well, I live in Colorado Springs and have a HR10-250, and so far I've received nothing from Directv saying this town will be a test market for the HR20. Quite frankly, I'd HATE to get that letter! I don't want to be their beta tester, I'm much too happy with a real Tivo thank you very much.
