I upgraded to 1.9.3 a few days ago and I can't get my music to show up on the TiVo box. I can see the TiVo Desktop music share name, but when I pick it says "Please Wait" for about 20 seconds and then returns with the following error message:

"A problem occured while access the server. This may be a temporary problem due to a network interuption or the server being busy. If the problem persists check you network connections and verify that the TiVo Server application is running on your computer"

I tried delete both com.tivo.desktp, the /Library/Receipts and the preference pane and did an actual "install" vs a "upgrade". Didn't make a difference. Photo sharing doesn't work either. Same problem.

I also tried deleting the iTunes xml file. Firewall is turned off. I turned the logging on, but didn't see anything unusual. I can see the service with Bojour Browser.

I have no problem retreiving a *.tivo movie from the TiVo box to my computer and it has no problem retreiving show information. The problem must exist somewhere between the TiVo Desktop panel and iTunes.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Brian

If you hold down the option key and then click on the TiVo Desktop item in the preference pane, you'll be able to enable logging which might help you find something.

Are there any unusual characters in your computer's name (look at the top of the Sharing preference pane)?

Log file looks normal. Did not see any errors. With debug level 20 it went through all the iTunes albums and songs and artists.

My computers name should be fine. No spaces and no unusual characters.

Sometimes I can get music to play. On the TiVo, it takes about 20-30 seconds for TiVo to load the music sharing item. Then another 20-30 seconds to pick an albumn. Then another 20-30 seconds to pick a song. And then another 20-30 seconds for the song to start playing.

I feel like the problem may not be related to TiVo at all, but I don't have any other network problems so I can't think of what it might be.

I can post the log file info if that would be helpful. Thanks

I tried it on my other Mac that has never had the TiVo desktop software and it didn't work either. I finally tried it on a PC and that worked flawlessly. Works on a PC and not on a Mac. That's great. The Mac version was the latest download. Is there anything that I might have missed. I had turned off the firewall and I could see the service running in the Bonjour Browser.

Any more suggestions? Thanks

When you see the service running in Bonjour browser, are you using Bonjour Browser on a different computer than the one that's running TiVo Desktop? If not, do so because it will show if it's getting through the network or not.

It almost sounds like you might have some sort of network latency issue going on. Are you using wireless or wired connections?

It does sound like a latency issue but I can't figure out what could be causing it. The first Mac I tried this on is wired to the router. The second Mac is a laptop with a wireless connection and the PC is also a laptop with a wireless connection.

From a browser on the hosted Mac, this URL come back immediately:

h xx p : / / xxx.xxx.x.x:8101/TiVoConnect?Command=QueryContainer&Container=%2fbxxxbarnhart_iTunes

However, from another computer on our network, it takes about 20 seconds. I think that is where my problem is, but I don't know why it is occurring.

The URL from my Mac hosting TiVo desktop (http://192.168.2.105:8101/TiVoConnect/bxxxxt_iTunes/Songs/1685752741) returns with the song immediately. Using another machine, the song will not return for 20 seconds. Below is the output for port 8101 on my Mac hosting TiVo. Any thoughts on why the Mac TiVo Desktop server is pausing before returning the song? Is TiVo Desktop 1.9.3 not compatible with 10.4.7? This happens on a fairly stock iBook as well.

Here are my latest clues:

At 23:49:22.970 a request for a song
At 23:49:52.975 the HttpServer actually recognizes the request.

I've done this 10 times and there is always exactly a 30.005 second delay. Is there some sort of delay parameter that I'm missing?

Not sure what the actual problem was, but it is working normally again. We had an issue with lighting last Friday and the cable modem/TA went out and had to be replaced. Without changing anything on my Mac the delay problem went away. If the problem was with the cable modem/TA, not sure why what could cause the problem. It's not a router or a switch.

Had the same problem, then discovered that I had NOT enabled TivoDesktop in the Firewall prefs. Go to System Prefs, Network Prefs, Firewall tab to turn on.

But now my problem is that video podcasts don't show up! Any ideas?
