View Full Version : Harmony 680 control 2 TiVos?

I just got my HR10-250 installed today. I also have, in the same room, an R-10. I use the Harmony 680 universal remote. Since both TiVos use the same remote address (0) as a default, I tried changing the addresses of both (HR10-250 set to 1, R-10 set to 2) using their respective TiVo peanuts. No problem. I then had my Harmony learn the IR signal for each key for each remote hoping that the IR learn mode would carry the remote address along with the key command. No go.

It appears that the Harmony is "hard wired" with the 0 address and I was not successful in changing the address in either "profile."

Does anyone know how to get my Harmony to use different remote addresses when controlling the HR10-250 vs. R-10?

I had to contact Harmony tech support to get that resolved. Also, the front line support couldn't help me, I had to go to second level support. Once you get them, though, it is an easy fix, and you just upload your remote and it will work fine. They can never give me an answer on why Harmony doesn't allow the end user to select remote address.

There have been lots of posts on using Harmony remotes with multiple Tivos. Try searching this forum or check out remotecentral.com. They discuss virtually every type of remote available and have forums specifically for the Harmony remotes.

Found the answer on remotecentral.com:

First, you need to get the Tivo remotes to work separately by setting the remote and IR address in the Tivos. Once the Tivo remotes only control one Tivo each, go into each Tivo device on the harmony website and click Confirm IR Language. You'll be asked to send 3 commands from the Tivo remote and it will automatically select the right IR language and address for each one.

That puts the correct remote address into each of the Harmony profiles.

When you do this procedure, what button do you press when asked to punch the Power Toggle button?

Just skip power toggle. It will still work.

That's what I ended up doing and it works fine although I think changing the remote addy for the HR10-250 to 5 from 2 is what did the trick.

How do you speed up the Harmony response time? When using the Harmony the box responds slower than the TiVo provided remote and I'd really like to fix that, it's quite annoying.

I called Harmony. I use my 680 with two HDTiVos and one SD DirecTiVo in the same room.

I emailed support, they've responded very quickly in the past so I'll see how that goes.

What did you/they do to speed up the response times?
