Hi All,

I've only have one upgrade under my belt and it has been a while since I last did it, so I'm a little rusty! A couple of years ago, I upgraded my original Series2 DirecTV TiVo (HDVR2) 40 Gig HD to 120 Gig HD. This drive is starting to show signs of failing so now I want to upgrade my 120 to a 320 Gig and save all my recordings. Is this possible? If I can't save my recordings, is it possible to just save my season passes and other settings?

Also, I originally used the Hinsdale guide to do my first upgrade but was thinking about using InstantCake this time around. If I use InstantCake, will I still be able to restore my season passes and settings from my old drive.

Thanks,
Ed

Saving recordings from a failing drive can be quite a task, and may not be worth the time to do so. But, if you have TWP installed, you can easily make a backup of wishlist/season passes and transfer them to your newly upgraded drive. I've had to do that a few times after accidentally killing one of my TiVos.

With the standard mfstools:

1) You can upgrade only once and save recordings. The second upgrade cannot copy the recordings.

2) With the tools, you will save the settings and season passes.

3) Depending on how bad your hard drive is, you may not be able to make a backup of the drive.

4) With Instantcake, you will not be able to save your settings and season passes.
