This is a weird one.
My Tivo works. But stops recording things. When you change channels sometimes it says access card not found. When you look at the info menu it says account closed.
When you reboot that all fixes itself for a short time.
Anyone else seen this.?

sounds like it is losing contact. take it out and clean the small processor chip very lightly with a pencil eraser. and then slide it solidly and reseat it back in the card slot.
if your still having troubles call dtv and have them send new card or replace the hd tivo for you.

If a reboot solves the problem, then I'm not certain the problem is the electronic connection between the card and the receiver. But it might be worthwhile to try some electronic contact cleaner on the card and the contacts inside the TiVo.

There is a switch on the card reader that closes when a card is inserted. I had one once that the switch was slightly bent. I opened it up, fixed the problem and that was that. If you are handy, check out the card reader.

I just had the same problem occur with a friend's HDTivo. He'd get messages telling him to insert the access card and that the DVR service was not active and his account was closed. He would also experience stuttering and dropouts which, initially, we thought was a drive problem. The regular DTV channels would also not come in, even the free ones.
It turned out that both his receiver and his access card were bad. DTV sent him two replacement HDTivos that both showed the same problems when he inserted the original access card. When he inserted an old access card from an usubbed unit the problems would vanish and the DTV barker channels would come in fine. DTV finally relented and sent him a new access card. His HDTivo is now working fine with no problems.
If you have a spare access card then swap it out and see if the problems you can check go away with the new card. You won't be able to check the recording features but you should be able to check your account status and basic features.

It is more likely the STB than the card that is the problem. But..........
I once has a DISH CSR ask me to get down on my knees and blow (into the card slot) when I had this problem :) . I had to ask twice, because I did not believe my ears at first.
But, it worked. (and I'm still in therapy over it) :D

They told me to blow into it also. I used caned air.
At first I was thinking it was the box not dialing in for 706 days but, was not the problem.
Thanks for all the support and help.
