OK - maybe (probably) a stupid question -- do these drives come "pre loaded" for a swap out of the old drive in the HR10-250? or are these considered additonal drives for additonal storage? What's the point?

Thanks...

Neither! If you want to swap it out with your old drive you have to image it from the drive that's in your TiVo. If you want to add it to your TiVo you have to bless it so that the TiVo software can properly format it.

The point is that with a 500GB hard drive you can get twice as much HD onto your TiVo. :)

If you want a preconfigured solution check with Weaknees.com

so, the concept is you must "bless it" so the TIVO software can "format it" ... via a CLEAR & RESET (or what?) .... How is this done?

Trying to ascertain if this is something anyone can do or if it requires special software & skills. (I can swap a drive... but what else is involved in changing out a drive to NEW 500GB?)

Thanks again ... you guys are smart !!! lol

If you search around the forum, you'll find out how. Question is do you wanna do it yourself, or make it easy and go to www.weaknees.com

It requires some minor Linux skills, so it's not for everyone. However there are very detailed instructions down in the Underground forum, so if you're even moderately computer savy and can follow directions you should be able to pull it off.

Do these PATA drives work as TiVo upgrades? I am not familiar with these drives.

I understand how to upgrade, I have always used IDE drives not PATA drives.

PATA is being used so as not to mistake the drive for a SATA.
PATA is IDE.
