The 120Gb hard disk on my Tivo failed a week or so ago. Of course its such a long time since I upgraded the original disk that I've pretty much forgotten how I originally did it.

I've ordered a new 250Gb Samsung disk as a replacement and I have a backup image ready to roll. However having scanned Gary's faq that points to the Hinsdale Guide I'm still not clear on how to get a disk >137Gb supported.

Can someone point me to the best Boot CD and instructions for taking a single disk backup and restoring it onto a large disk.

I can't believe how much I've come to depend on the Tivo. I've only just realised now that its no longer working. I need to get it back up and working soon. Any pointers would be appreciated

Keith

ptvupgrade.com has an upgrade CD that they sell for about $5 that contains an updated kernel The updated kernel will allow TiVo to use a large drive.

No point buying it when you can download it from here (http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/software/lba48/index.html). :)

Or even better, the Version 1.0 CD (http://www.tivoheaven.com/download/ptv-mfstools2-large-disk.iso) which is all you need for UK TiVos ;)

Bah! I was going to link to that, but assumed you'd say to get the latest version  Well, it was 50/50 :)

Just yesterday I replaced my failing 160GB disk with a new Samsung 250GB.

I used the 'PTVupgrade LBA48 CD v4.04' from here: http://www.ptvupgrade.com/products/software/lba48/index.html

I copied everything from the 160 to the 250, which I left copying overnight.

Thanks for all the assistance.

I used the V1.0 CD blindlemon referred to and it worked well. The new disk is now up and running. In the end I even managed to squeeze out one final access out of the original Tivo disk. So I was able to back it up and get all my season passes across :)

Interestingly as soon as I booted the PC the SMART routines in the BIOS warned me that the disk was about to die. I know that's was SMART is all about but I've never actually seen it kick in before.
