I was hoping i could get some help here...

Just got my HR-10250 Installed.

its working "ok" at best

Hooked up via Component to Kv-36XBR400 (HD Trinatron).
I also Tried it via S-Video ( Menue Speed was no better)

1. the Menu is soooooo Slow. is this normal? im used to my other D* boxes working almost instantly.

on this HD-TIVO it takes a good 3-4 seconds for the Guide to load the programming when u press "guide" please tell me this isnt normal..

2. What ever happened to just hitting Up/Down to see a small 1 Line channel guide at the bottom of the screen? Best feature ever.... My old Hughes E-86 had that. then the H20 had similar feature but u had to hit the blue button First...
Now this HD-TIVO has NOTHING.

3. It's connected to Vonage through COX high-speed Internet here in Las Vegas. After failing to make the setup call 3-4x, it FINALLY made the call to get the local Numbers. Then once it tried to call to setup, it failed like 8x more times.... FINALLY it got through and setup..

WTF.. Piece of Sh*t...

Hopefully u "Pro's" have some tips that can help me.

1. yes, it's slow when compared to the newer Gear. The SW version is back in the dark ages, and yes, an update is expected..see other threads :) It might also be a function of the fact all the data may not be downloaded and indexed. give it a couple days to do that and see if it speeds up a bit. No, it still will not be stellar..not until the rumored 6.3 release.

2. Dunno. The guide's always been full screen, transparent, so ???

3. Read the threads on VOIP and Vonage access. It's not a 100% guarantee. THe Vonage users seem to have had varying degrees of luck either having Vonage update their settings/priorities, or by calling a couple of specific phone numbers ( Long distance for most) in NYC or DC I think it was. THere are some issues with the "older" hardware and 100% compatibility with VOIP lines. You might call COX up and talk with their techs about it to see if anyone else has called in and worked with them to resolve the issue.

You DO have the option of returning it if it's such a piece of doodoo. The issues you mentioned have been beaten like the proverbial dead horse on the and AVS boards. THe bottom line?

The HD picture is worth 10000000000000 words :)

good luck

i had a Hughes HIRD-E86 like 3-4 Years ago. Menue was FAST as Hell.

There is no reason this menu should be so slow...

I Just called Vonage, they told me to put in (212) as my area code. The calls to NY work better cause its closer to them or something...

1 last question (for now) lol

Phone line hooked up Vs Never hooked up..

whats the real difference?

i do NOT care about pay per view.

i heard that the phone line tells the Tivo to defrag the hard drives and makes them run faster over time...

There is no reason this menu should be so slow...Even the SD DTivos are slower than the non-DVR boxes. But the HR10-250 is slower still, due to older software. Supposedly a software update is coming later this month -- if it does, it will get somewhat faster. But never like your E86.

Also, EVERYTHING will move slower (menus, guides etc) if either tuner is tuned to a HD channel Decoding HD just takes more power. make sure they are tunmed to SD programming unless you're recording, it helps a lot.

Have you changed the guide options to the Tivo style (IIRC it's called 'list style') and gotten away from the D* 'grid style?' This will help to increase the speed.

Just want to second that - this made a huge difference and I no longer notice slow guide speed.
