View Full Version : How long should the first message appear when DTV is first started up?

I'm trying to replace the HD of a Hughes HDVR2. I had upgraded it to 250Gb using a Seagate HD. Every time I've had a power failure, the DTV would die after trying to restart after the power came up. It would freeze on the "blue screen of death" where the DTV logo is shown with the message "Just a few minutes more..."

Well, I got another HD, a Western Digital WD2500JB. I "baked" it using InstantCake. Installed it, powered it up. The grey screen comes on with the message "Welcome. Powering up...." It flickered after about 5 minutes but was still displaying the grey screen. After two hours, I rebooted it again. The DTV never got past the grey screen.

I then did a diagnostic test of the Seagate HD. No problems shown by the SeaTools diagnostic tool. I then baked this HD with InstantCake. Swapped the WD HD out and put the Seagate one instead. Again, the DTV box never gets past the grey screen. I didn't reset it and I'm going to leave it on all night to see what happens.

I don't think it's likely that I got two bad HDs. Are there anything else I'm missing or doing wrong?

Thanx,
Doomster

check the jumpers
the ribbon cable and power cable.
Sounds like it's not hitting the hard drive at all.

If this is occuring after a power failure I'd bet your DTivo got zapped with a power surge and got fried. There's probably nothing wrong with your hard drives or OS installations but more likely a bad mainboard. This is why a DTivo should always be connected to a UPS with good surge protection and voltage regulation.

The problem only occurs if the DTV gets unpowered.

I got the DTV to come up now, thru the Guided Setup stage. I did a "clear and reset" everything but now I don't get local channels (anything between 2 and 99). I have to do some research on that.

And I got it to work on the Seagate HD, which I don't have a whole lot of confidence in. I need to replace it with a more stable HD.

I think you have to wait a bit and the locals will be available. It may take overnight for it to happen.

For the locals call A CSR and have them reflash your card. A clear and delete all will sometimes loose the locals.
