Tivo Service Connection

I got a message this weekend that my machine can't connect to the Tivo service center. I have a Sony series 2 machine. I've changed the phone number it calls and I've tested the phone connection which are both fine. When I try to manually call, it drops out somewhere during the download section.

It will disconnect the call if someone in the house picks up another phone. Also, call waiting will cause it to drop out. The TiVo should retry the call in a few hours.

It is possible that the TiVo is loading an update of software. This call can take over an hour. However, it seems to download in parts. So after a few attempts, the complete update will be received and it will reboot and go back to normal.

I had the same problem but realized I forgot to put a DSL filter on the phone outlet after my wireless went caput.
