So how did you do with your picks for the final 3?
Geniuses tend to over think the clues....
Did anyone notice that it looked like there was a sleeve of a security guard in the Southies truck?

Does anyone have a recording of tonight's episode? My TiVo missed it. So did I. :(

Hmmm...I think my top three didn't include the Southies, but the other two were right...just didn't expect the Geniuses to mess up so badly in Philly. They got lucky!!

Well the southies shouldn't have been in there since they didn't really solve the clue. The real flaw with the program is that so many times they got the answer without really having to solve the clues. This one was simply too easy. The clue should have been a combination that required you to actually find and or solve the puzzle not just guess. This has happened before where the got the answer some other way ( cheating, watching someone else, etc ) which really messes up the game.

The Southies, wow, I guess that is what happens among longtime freinds sometimes, especially when they are crammed into tight spaces for days on end in a high stress situation.
I would say that the Air Force has been the best team all along and the fact that they are leading does not surprise me.
I thought the ledge challenge was pretty crazy. I guess you just haev to tell yourself that you are safe with the harness and there is no way the producers would risk real injury to the contestans and push through.
I have been on the roofs of some 20-30 story buildings for work (though not at the edge) and have had to be right on the edge of a 14 story building holding a drill out over the edge (the drill was tied off but I was not  ) and it will get the heart going, but you can get used to it in a few minutes.

I kinda figured it would be the Geniuses and not the Ex-CIA who'd win. If you think about it, the Geniuses have been the team the show has focused on substantially more than Ex-CIA. I could barely tell you what the guys on Ex-CIA looked like, but knew each Genius pretty well -- all because the producers knew which teams would be in the finale and thus played up the final three teams all season long.

I was really interested in the old buildings they were going into.
The Geniuses were so smart they didn't have to look up thier Destination on ASK.COM. They got pretty lucky.
Anyone know how they buy gas? Pay for food? Is it all provided? They have bag lunches or something?

I will go out on a limb and say that they use a VISA card provided by the show. ;)

I'm rooting for Team Air Force. I thought for sure ex CIA would make it to the final three...I'm just relieved that The Fogals were eliminated a few weeks ago. The show has been so much more bearable without Kayte's complaining every ten seconds.
The thing that kept getting on my nerves last night is how the teams would yell out the answers with other teams around. We're getting down to the end guys, start thinking stratigicly and stop giving out all the answers!

I have really enjoyed this show as a summer diversion. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how they handle a "live" season finale given that I understand that shooting wrapped up early last fall so it's been almost a year...

I assume you are being sarcastic, but I will pretend you aren't :p The geniuses should've looked up their destination on Ask.com...then they wouldn't have gone from 1st to 4th during their trek around Francis' city....they completely screwed the pooch on that one.

I think the two who were fighting were brothers - explains a lot - my brother and I would completely be at each other's necks were we in a high stress situation after just being stuck in a car together for hours on end :)

It's almost a given that when a contestant on a show such as this, or Amazing Race, proclaims "This is my home city, so we'll have a huge advantage" that that team will screw something up. Teams tend to get over-confident on their home turf, and never do well.

 You know as soon as the words come out of their mouth they are about to mess up big time. All they needed to do was look it up at Ask.com and I bet they would have gotten there first because they would know the place AND had someone with them that knew the city. That is one of the stupidest things I have seen them do and the last couple of legs of the show is not the place to do it. I guess we really don't know how far ahead of ex-CIA they were, since it is all edited but they made it seem like it was close and it shouldn't have been close AT ALL!

That's unfortunate! I would have said the same thing after watching the first season of Big Brother, but I think that show has actually improved with age...

I hadn't planned on watching this show after the first episode...it seemed like too much of a copy of AR and the clues seemed too easy. They've definitely gotten more cryptic over time and it's become much more interesting than I ever expected. I'm glad I returned to the show after a few missed episodes and gave it a second chance. Maybe the "Powers That Be" will do the same.

I was referring to it not coming back for another season. They are still going to air the rest of this season.

I'm tired of watching the yahoos on the show, and tired of listening to Max Headroom on the phone. I am curious to see what the "treasure" is, so I endure the episodes.
Watching them all do their hick (Hanlon) impersonations in New-York-City was hard to take. "If I win I'm going to buy this hotel". Wow, a Limo, for us?
"It sure feels good to be back on American soil". I hate to use a tired old "think of the troops" line, but seeing that putz say it to the camera after a week or so all expense paid trip to Paris when I'm used to hearing it from soldiers returning from Iraq was a little irritating.

I'll stand my my comment in last week's thread about trying out obvious words on that cryptex. I mean how could you not try obvious words like freedom, america, liberty, ...
Too easy.

Lol, the hotel comment made me want to gag too. I actually replied out loud to him that it'll take a heck of a lot more than finding the treasure to buy the hotel. What a stupid thing to say.

I am still enjoying this but I am disappointed the cryptex could have been opened simply by guessing at words. It really should have been something that was more complex. I guess with this game sometimes its better to be lucky than smart!

The last wheel should have had a blank - so it could be either six letters or seven letters. Hell, my silly word lock from Staples has a blank on it!

I totally agree with this. Even if a team knows what a the answer to a puzzle is, they should still have to complete it. This was never more evident than during the last episode when they were in Paris. One team had already realized they needed to go to the Statue of Liberty, but hadn't yet gone up the Eiffel Tower to look for it. RoboHost came on the phone and told them to go ahead and proceed to the next step without ever going up the tower.
Does that mean that if any of them were bright enough to spend their flight from Paris to NYC trying 7-letter words on the cryptex, they could have conceivably skipped this whole leg because they knew that the next location was the Library of Congress?
However, I suspect that the producers took the cryptexes away from the teams and only returned them as they were going into Founder's Hall. This would prevent them guessing the correct code, especially since it turned out to be so easy.

I think this show made a lot of mistakes at the production level to return. Contestant selection was a biggie! The Browns should NEVER have been selected as it was obvious from the first that they were physically incapable of performing the challenges. Heck, they had to swim to shore and one of them couldn't swim! How bad is that?
The clues, as has already been stated, are at best, inconsistant. Some are really tough but most are obvious (or the editing appears to make them so). And some contestants are inherrantly stupid. If the Hanlons can make a 150 mile round trip for hamburgers and STILL not be the team to be eliminated, how fair can it be?
It was an interesting diversion for the summer, but I've seen better shows cut quicker. I won't miss it.

Given the apparently lax rules about how you go about finding the answer, I'm surprised that team Air Force didn't just call the 2 teams they felt were the weakest and give them the answer to the cryptex, so they could eliminate whomever they perceived to be their biggest threat. Of course, maybe they couldn't decide since none of the other teams seem to be much of a threat ;)

Another reason I don't like Treasure Hunters as much as TAR: No limos on TAR, no Waldorf-Astoria on TAR.
Southie Boys: "You shut up. "SHUT UP!!!" "YOU SHUT UP!!!" "SHUT UP" "SHUT UP!!!!!!!!"

I have enjoyed the last few episodes much more than the first few. I think the elimination of Kayte turned the tide. I think they could revamp it and make it much better. It had a lot of promise.

Couldn't agree more!
Way too often clues are figured out the "wrong" way.
I suppose there are some treasure hunters in the world who just dig a hole and randomly find treasure. But the show producers should be smarter and make it so you can't randomly solve things by brute force or trial and error.

I agree that the teams should have to actually solve the clue instead of guessing it by blind luck.
Also, doesn't it seem that all the teams are bunched up for the whole race? Why don't they get spread out more like in TAR? Sure, the teams in TAR start at different times, but even after the teams are all together at a bunching point it seems that the racers soon spread out and arrive at the following checkpoints at very different times. In TR, it seems that the racers are all within a few minutes of each other all the time.
I think the problem with bunching had to do with the fact that most of the clues did not need to be solved separately. Once one person figured out that you breathed on the mirror, for example, all the teams were able to get the clue within seconds. In TAR, most of the challenges require individual physical effort by each team, whether it be finding their own piece of laundry with a red tag or drilling a hole for ice fishing. There also weren't many times where a team could choose between two tasks, which also helps to eliminate bunching in TAR and makes it more interesting.

Besides... as was pointed out, it's not a race it's a treasure hunt. If you're smart enough or lucky enough to figure out a clue and be able to skip a couple of steps to get a jump on your competition... why not?

But it is a race. Each episode is a race to see who can be first (or not be last) to find an artifact. Overall it's a treasure hunt, but each individual episode is a race.

But its not really a race in that aspect either. As when they had to dig up that one artifact, all the teams were already there so it wasn't whoever got there first continues...you actually have to find the artifact. I think too many people try too hard to relate this show to TAR and it's just not. The point of the game is to find the treasure not to be the first at the finish line. Does a lead help, yes. Does it always insure victory? No.

That's why I said it's a race not to be last. Getting there first doesn't help if you can't find the artifact, but it's still a race in the sense that the last one to complete whatever the final task is will not be able to continue.

But it's not a race in that you have to go from point A to point B to get to point C. If you can figure out a way from A to C then you gain an advantage. if it was a race you would have to hit each point.
