After seeing what HD looks like on it, it's only made the wait for Series 3 THAT MUCH more unbearable. :( I can't bring myself to get the HD DTivo to replace my current DTivo since they won't have my locals in HD anytime before 2008 it appears. So it looks like I'll be switching to Comcast and buying a Series 3 whenever it comes out....please come out soon...........please.....

I'm with you. I just picked up my shiny new Samsung 1080p DLP, and HD looks amazing. Sadly I put myself on the waiting list for the Comcast DT HD DVR. The series 3 is just taking too long.

I'm used to 120 hours of SD on my upgraded Series 1 DTivo and I just can't imagine being limited to the number of hours that come on the Comcast box unfortunately. It'd be much cheaper for me I'm sure to go with a Comcast/Tivo box (whenever it comes out) but not being able to add hours to it like I'd be able to easily do with a Series 3 (whenever it comes out) is a dealbreaker.

However, if your locals are actually broadcasting HD now OTA, then you can pick them up on the HR10-250 with a regular UHF antenna.

I'm the same way. I recently picked up an HDTV (panny: th42px60u) and I am totally addicted to HD. Hopefully the Series 3 comes out soon because I am seriously thinking about picking up one of TW's DVRs.

Hi guys - So I'd called DirecTV yesterday and the customer rep stated I would simply need a 5LNB dish to receive HD channels, including my locals (Seattle area). Would someone more knowledgeable of this, please confirm?
This would be nice, not to have an additional OTA antenna, however, I'm curious about the DirecTV HD equipment. I've heard my only option here is to acquire an HD Directivo unit that will become obsolete soon. HD250? But will this unit even pull the HD signal from the 5LNB dish? I'm assuming it will.
Are there other options regarding going HD with DirecTV? Would it be better to get HD DirecTV receivers and purchase a stand-alone HD Tivo? Is this even a possibility. Sorry for the myriad of questions. I've been out of this loop for so long. I currently have two directivo's (SD) and a 3LNB dish. My Panny TH50-500U is currently an XBOX 360 screen. :(
Thanks for the help.

The Series 3 TiVo is designed for CableTV and OTA. It won't control (or accept input from) a DirecTV receiver the way a Series 1 or Series 2 standalone will.
