Any easy way to change destination IP address used for daily call

Got a problem at the moment. I'm cutting my home phone line away from Bulldog, so I've had no phone or ADSL for a while. I'm leaching off a mates wifi connection, using a wifi card in my PC, (which also is on same Ethernet as Tivo)

My Tivo is about to run out of guide data (its taken a while to get this far on the phone front :))

I can't use Wifi directly to the net, I have a cachecard.

I've had a dig around and found a simple proxy for my PC, that should do what I want, provided I can get the Tivo to attempt to connect to my PC, and not to the default 204.176.49.3. If the Tivo connects to the PC, the PC will then open another connection out via the wifi interface to the net and bounce the guide data between the two connections, hopefully with the Tivo non the wiser.

So, does anyone know of a way to get the Tivo to use a given ip address as the daily call destination IP address, or any other way to get guide data onto a Tivo in my particular circumstances ?

It has full network connectivity to my PC at the moment, just nowhere else :) I can't use the PC to simply route between the two interfaces, the Wifi router will only allow NAT for traffic from the wifi subnet, not from my local ethernet.

nic_config_Tivo to flip to phone isn't an option any more, and whenever I tried to flip it to phone before, on reboot it stuck at the 2nd grey screen after the full cachecard init. Networking worked and the Tivo was telnetable, (but for some reason the tivo's def gw had changed to 192.168.1.1). It did this consistently until I changed back to network and reverted the def gw to its correct value :(

Why not just set up connection sharing on your PC and share the connection to your TiVo, which will allow the TiVo to connect directly to the listings server and download the listings.

No need to proxy as far as I can tell...

Surely you just need to re-run the nic_config and point the default gateway to your PC?
I have only run Nic_config a couple of times but I'm sure that would be the right path. If Tivo connects to your PC as a gateway and the PC is aware of 'where the internet is' then all should be well?

There'll be a networking guru along in a minure to confirm or deny what I've just said I'm sure...

You don't want to change the external internet address, just the internal gateway address to that of the PC with ICS enabled. A Wi-Fi bridge or games adaptor would also allow your TiVo to access the Wi-Fi gateway directly. I use a bridge with my cachecard.

Pretty much what I did in the end, its grinding away now :)

XP ICS messes about the IP addressing on the lan, which is what put me off it initially. Once I figured you could just change the LAN address back and ICS would continue to work, job was a good un.

Alternatively I suppose you could have run nic_config_tivo from a Telnet prompt and changed the connection setting back to phone until such time as you had a wired broadband connection online again in your own home once more.

The phone download is normally only 3 minutes or so although I suspect it might have been more like 20 minutes or with so many extra days of missing data to retrieve. Anyhow glad to hear that you found a way to sort it out in the end.

Cheers, but the daily call via ICS has just completed and is working a champ so problem over til I get my own ADSL again.

I actually tried to revert using nct, but when I changed the daily call to phone from network, the tivo stuck at the 2nd grey screen, the one after cachecard initialisation, on every reboot. (I noticed it also changed the default gateway to 192.168.1.1, perhaps it only works if you leave all the addressing as default (ie 192.168.1.*, I use non-RFC1918 addressing) The tivo stayed accessable via telnet through all this, just the UI never appeared.

Does it work? Have you done it yourself ??
