View Full Version : Newbie question - 5LNB dish?

I have scheduled for this Thursday an installation of the 5 LNB dish. My primary thought was to get the local stations in high def through DTV on my Hughes HD 250-10 (?). From this site it sounds like I can't get these through this receiver, so is there any reason to upgrade to this dish if everything works? Do I gain anything? I currently get HD off an antenna mounted in my attic. Most time the reception is fine, though ever once in awhile it is spotty. I had installed the HD dish myself a few years ago, and thought maybe professional installation (and dish pointing) would help my set up. Now I am not so sure. My self install is not pretty, but it works. I'm afraid that this new dish may cause more problems than it is worth.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, and thanks for all the help this forum has been so far.

The HR10-250 cannot receive the HD locals from the satellite. The 5LNB dish is a good investment for the future, but the HR10 can't use the additional two LNBs.

If nothing else, you'll get a more accurately aligned dish. :)

And, if you can get your OTA working better, there may be no need to get the HR20.

I live in Norhtern Minnesota and belive we are probably last on the list to get MPEG-4 locals.
My question is- I have one HR10- 250, H20 HD receiver, and a 5LNB dish. Could I trade my H20 in for another HR10-250? Or would I just have the capacity for one tuner?
which I guess would work.

Can't tell you how many times I have wanted to rewind while I am watching the wrong TV.

I don't know about trading in the H20, but you can certainly get both tuners on a second HR10 working with the 5LNB dish (it has four outputs). And if you need more than four, you can add another multiswitch to the four lines from the dish to get you more.
