I have a very old Tivo series1. One night when we were getting rapid power outages I unplugged my Tivo from the APC UPS. Since then, it stuck at the "Your Recorder is Starting Up" opening screen.

I removed the upgraded 160GB and returned the old 20GB and 100GB pair I had laying about aas backups. It worked but those two old drives had a bad habbit of freezing up so I used MFSTools and recopied my images back to the 160GB. No luck. All I get is Your Recorder is Starting Up.

So I put the old 20&100 back in but now the 100GB drive doesn't work anymore. It's probably the reason things would freeze from time to time.

Tired of hacking, I break down and buy Instant Cake. First try and it crashes somewhere in the middle of upgrading my 160GB. Second try and it fails to decompress. O.K., maybe the 160GB is bad (though I tested it in a Win98 machine and it seemed fine).

Now I try Instant Cake with a 120GB that I know is good. Everything works smoothly. I put the 120GB in my Tivo and whala Your Recorder is Starting Up...and nothing more.

Can anyone help me out with this one? I have the lifetime subscription so I'd really like to get this Tivo back up and running.

Thanks in advance.

Similar thing just happened to me in the last hour. After a power outage, with the exact same model of Philips - though with a brand new TurboNet kit installed - I too am stuck on the, "Your Recorder is starting up.." screen..

I bought the Instant Cake CD. It (alone) didn't solve anything. Each new drive I "baked" wouldn't get past the "Starting Up" screen. Then I used the dvrpalyground workaround and it managed to fix me right up. Go here to see for yourself.

Good luck.
