I have a directTV Hughes 40 hr tivo and have ordered one of the Hinsdale "drop-in" replacement drives. It has not yet arrived but I've been wondering if the replacement drive I will be receiving has been hacked to activate the USB or even if that is possible to do. There is no way to contact Hinsdale directly and ask which is why I am asking here. I am a total novice when it comes to Linux which is why I purchased a "drop-in" drive.

Thanks

The drive should be a straight replacement with increased storage, depending on what was ordered. Hacks are generally not provided.

What a shame. So, to add hacks, I would need to do it myself?

Not knowing any Linux I guess that would be dangerous to try.

Thanks

Check the underground forum. If you are fine with swapping out drives it may not be too bad for you to add hacks.

Search the Underground forum for the "zipper". This has the instructions and links to scripts for the hacks. It is a bit of effort, so make sure that you apply them to a copy of your drive.
