I have a TiVo 2 hooked to my network with a TiVo wireless adapter. Works perfectly. I installed TiVo desktop last night and was able to see from my PC everything that was recorded on the TiVo, but I was unable to transfer anything. My PC is running XP MediaCenter with 1G of RAM. Today I get a different desktop error message. When I try to boot up TiVo Desktop I get "Beacon Service Not Running." What's "beacon service?" I tried reinstalling Desktop, but no luck. Same error message. Suggestions anyone??
Tried pausing/resuming the TiVo Server under the Server dialog?
There are several small background utilities that run with TiVo Desktop including something called TiVoBeacon.exe - maybe you should check in the task manager if that's running.
I'm not sure if MCE or windows for that matter has any other "beacon" services or whether MCE is compatible with the TiVoBeacon so I guess I'm not of much help here. These are always tough questions when it comes to networking.

Look under Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services and make sure the TiVo Beacon service is actually running. If it's not (and it won't start) try checking the Event Log as there might be a message there as to why it's not starting. Try temporarily disabling any firewall software that might prevent the beacon from starting as well.
Also for reference it looks like the .exe can be found in Program Files\Common Files\TiVo Shared\Beacon

Ok, I uninstalled & reinstalled Desktop and it works perfectly. Simple fix!
