Want to get a new HD TV and I'm wonering if its worth paying for a new H10-250 with the conversion to mpeg 4 coming up. I would like to own another one and not lease the new system from DTV but how long will it be usebale and would DTV give me the new system free or cheap?

There are two things to consider.
1) When will your HD locals become available?
2) With OTA, do you really need DirecTV delivered HD locals?
Whether DirecTV does an even swap for the HR20 is still a good question.

yes it is if you get OTA and watch a lot of it.....I paid 400 earlier this year from newegg to own my 2nd HDtivo. I have the need for 4 tuners of OTA HD at times and one can never have too many tuners. at most, i'll lose SHO and HBO when they dump the mpeg2. But keep in mind...SD will be mpeg2 for a very long time so at a minimum, you'd have a 250 hour SD tivo. If you are getting the hdtivo free, that's a great deal if you ask me. So ignore all the naysayers that this is obsolete equipment. It's not. Now when SD goes mpeg4, yes, they will have to give everyone new equipment
if you like the tivo interface.....and need the tuners and space...get it.

Thanks for the replies. I live in Baltimore MD and HD OTA is fine where I live so I guess I will go ahead and get a new one. One last question, I currently own a phillips dsr 6000 with lifetime subscription. When I added the H10-250 a 2 years ago they said it was included in the original Lifetime and I didn't have to pay for another subscription. Will that be the same if I add another one?

Since you live in Baltimore then most likely you'll also be able to get DC locals in addition to the Baltimore stations, depending on your exact location. DTV will only give us the Baltimore feeds even though the vast majority of cable systems in the area carry both sets of stations. I'd get the HR10-250 for that reason alone. I've got threee of them and I'm considering replacing my other two standard receivers and DTivo with HDTivos just so I can add DC locals to all my TVs. I could care less about the mpeg4 locals when they arrive.

Lifetime if now part of your account. So yes, anything you add will be included.

The lifetime subscription only covers the DVR service fee and not the mirroring fee for the additional receiver. Additional DTivos don't cost extra for the DVR service since they are covered under a single flat fee, which in your case is included with the lifetime service on the DSR6000. You'll still have to pay the $4.99 monthly mirroring fee for the extra HDTivo.

Great I knew I'd get Hit with the $4.99 fee but wasn't sure if they would try and stick me for a new subsription. Thanks again.

Let me ask a question a bit off topic sbout Local HD OTA. I live in the SF Bay area in Castro Valley, which is behind the hills from Sutro tower. What if I get the H10-250 and I can't get local HD OTA?
Call and ask for DNS feeds
I did and got ABC, CBS, and FOX from LA.
Live in the 95006 area code.
Waiting for a waiver from NBC-HD
