I do not have a phone line in the house, I used the neighbors to set up to the Tivo last month. Now the sked is about to run out and I need to update.
Can I do this without a phone line?
All guide data is downloaded via the satellite stream. The phone is only needed at activation to activate the recording functions and later to trigger software updates.

I have recieved the warning that "the recorder has not made a succesful daily call for the past 21 days" So is there a setting I need to configure for Sat downloads?

You cannot turn off the messages. Just click on your remote to ignore, but they will begin popping up every day. The unit will continue to work otherwise as normal.
You could always hack the unit to avoid any nag screens if they bother you.

my tivo is well over 200 days without a call and it works perfectly and has never missed a recording.
There are many members in this forum that will tell you the same.

While it still doesn't REQUIRE a phone line, once you reach a certain dollar amount of unreported PPV, your receiver will stop letting you order from the remote. you can still purchase the movie online though.

That's true, but if you order online, all of your receivers will be authorized to view the ppv(assuming you have multiple receivers)while the remote will only authorize that one receiver.
