I have an older Sony 2000 TiVo (with lifetime subscription, hence my desire to hold on to it). A few months ago I noticed that playback of recorded shows would freeze/pixellate, then the sound would drop out for a few seconds, then it would resume as normal. It seemed to get gradually worse. After searching around, the consensus seemed to be that the Hard Drive was dying, so I ordered a replacement kit. Installation and setup went fine, but now the problem seems to be almost exactly the same, even with a new drive. It doesn't seem to matter much what quality I record at. It can happen 2-3x in an hour show, very frustrating!

Ideas?

Thanks!

Check the TiVo cooling fan. It may have quit turning and the TiVo is overheating.

Nope, fan is going and internal temperature is showing at 33°C (normal)

If you're using a cable box, try taking the TiVo out and seeing if the problem persists when just using the cable box. If you have a bad or weak cable connection to your cable box, you can experience these problems.
