Hello, I have been a lurker on the board for a long time. I just bought an S2-DT and installed it last night. It has one quirk that I found one other person on the board has experienced, but I did not find a good solution to the problem. I am even curious if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. So here it is…

The Live TV button and Guide button seems to be treated as the same on my S2-DT units. They clearly are different though as I can go to my older S2-ST unit and the Guide button will bring up the guide as it should and the Live TV button will give me that “bong” sound while on TV and will go to live TV when I am in any of the TiVo menus. So, the signals are definitely different, but the S2-DT unit treats them as the same…most of the time.

It seems that I can execute some combination of instructions with the TiVo to get the buttons to work correctly, but it goes back to treating them the same pretty quickly. I am not sure if it is even anything I am doing, it may be some random even with the unit itself that I am interpreting to be something I am doing. I am looking at this some more.

I want to be able to switch the tuners using the Live TV button. It should be able to work that way OK.

In the end, I can pull up the info screen and using the arrows, move to the second tuner, so I can switch the tuners pretty easily, but it would be nice to do it with a one button hit.

It seems like the problem is in the TiVo software itself since the buttons work fine on my S2-ST unit. I just got the DT unit from TiVo with 1-year prepaid. Is it possible that this was an older software glitch that will get worked out when my unit gets updated to the latest version of the software?

Other than that, I have no complaints…everything works great. I can record on both channels and move between them pretty easily although it is through the info menu. I got the TiVo Wireless adapter and am getting over 700 Kb/sec transfer speeds.

I want to believe that this is an anomaly and most folks do not have this problem. Any insight anyone can provide on the glitchy Live TV button is greatly appreciated. If I can figure out how it seems to reset and go back to working the way it should I will post that info.

Yes, you're the culprit, through the use of the old remote long with the new. The tivo can get use to one or the other, but when it sees both, series 1 commands along with series 2, you get the outcome you're seeing.

That is interesting...I goy my S2-ST remote and my universal out of the room and it looks like things are OK when I stick to just the remote that came with the S2-DT unit.

So now the next question…I have an OFA URC-6131 universal remote that I was using for my S2-ST unit that also runs my DVD unit. Do I have any options to get this remote to work with the S2-DT unit without have the TiVo mix up the Guide and Live TV buttons, or am I stuck needing to get a new remote that can be trained to learn the S2-DT signals and not mistake them for a ST unit?

Thanks for the help!!

One point of clarification...both units are Series 2 units. One is an 80-hour single tuner unit and the other is an 80-hour dual tuner unit. I figured the signals would be similar since the are both S2 units, but apparently that is not the case.

Yes, replace the series 1 preset commands in the 6131, with the following: Guide 150, Menu 058, Livetv-121. to map the to the keys:

1. pvr
2. press and hold SET for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-4
4. press SET for one blink
5. enter 3 digit advanced code
6. pick a key

its the 6131 at fault here, its preset commands are from series 1 remotes.

Thaks again,
Dave

What device code did you start with for the 6131 and the S2 DT?

The same as an S2 single tuner (at least thats what I used).

You can either use PVR 0618 or SAT 1142.

Any way to get the power button to put the S2 in standby? Can't seem to find a code for that.

The efc for standby is 152.

What about if you have two TiVos and one is set at remote code 1 and one is at remote code 2? I assume all the codes above are for remote code set to 0. Is that correct?

Not if you have OFA codes for addresses other then zero loaded into the remote, all the advanced codes in this thread will work on these other setup codes.

Remotes like ofa urc6820, 8820, 10820, and 6690 have preset codes for addresses 1-4. The advanced codes for zero address PVR/VCR 0618 code will work on alternate address setup codes.

But if you only have ofa remote with codes PVR/VCR 0618 & SAT 1142, then those advanced codes will be address zero too.

Thanks Edmund!

You are the URC Guru. That worked and I'm rocking w/ my $15 remotes!

Actually if you get the ofa remote models listed above, they only take 5 digit advanced codes, so you would need to add two zeroes to the front of each EFC, making standby 152= 00152.
