Following on from my post the other day, I have managed to install the new drive and it seems to be working fine, except for one problem.

I can no longer get the TiVo to make its daily call. I have tried it with two different phone lines, and every combination of settings I can think of. I can't get through the guided setup because it will not complete the call.

If I buy a TurboNet card, will this allow me to use my broadband connection to to the daily call instead ? Or would I need to get through the guided setup first and then switch it to network mode later ?

Yes a Turbonet card would but unless you do actually want to network it before spending more money I'd try and establish what's wrong to stop it from making the call via the phone.

I suspect that your new drive may have been setup for daily call by network but if your box hasn't got a network adaptor (Turbonet or Cachecard) then I don't think it will default to the phone and of course, without network access, you can't telnet in and change it.

If this is the case then you would have to remove the drive and put it in a PC to re-run the network driver install. You can do this even though you don't have a network adapter and one of the options is to make the daily call via phone or network.

I think you could probaly get in with a serial connection but I have no experience of that.

I'd get in touch with Tivoheaven for more advice.

All my drives are shipped with the daily call set to "dialup" unless requested otherwise so it seems likely that your modem is dead - particularly if you have had thunderstorms recently.

You can do Guided Setup over a network connection, no problem, but you will need a Cachecard rather than a Turbonet unless you want to reinstall the drivers as the drive has cachecard drivers on it at the moment.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I got the cachecard yesterday, installed it and it works fine. Very happy customer here.

My TiVo is now up and running again, even better than before - absence really does make the heart grow fonder. :)

I'll have to find some way to replace those CSI episodes I lost when the hard disk went kaput, though.
