This is a problem that has been aggrivating me now of several months. I cant seem to get any help on.

Every command issued using the TiVo remote, eventhough the little orange light indicates that it received the command, takes exactly 15 seconds to execute.

I had about 10 programs in my whats playing list, 7 or 8 in my season pass list and no wish lists.

Here is the rub. It doesn't happen all the time. It will start doing it. Continue to do it for anywhere from 2 - 4 hours, sometimes longer. As the time goes on with the problem, the time gets shorter until the commands are issued immediately.

So, thinking that I might be a corrupted file in the playlist. I reintialized the box. No Dice! It took me 7 minutes to enter my WEP code for the network. And over 45 minutes to wnter all the Setup stuff. This is unacceptable.

What is going on! Any help would be much appreciated. I love my TiVo, but man, somebody please help me before I pitch this thing out the window!

Are you using a cable box? An Infra Red emitter cable to control the cable box?

People have noted that the IR pulses coming from the TiVo to control a cable box can be slow.

My TiVo doesn't use a cable box, so I'm not so up on how to control them, but aren't there different speed settings on how fast the control flashes are produced?

What if you used a faster setting? (Assuming you're not already using the fastest one.)

I've actually been having the exact same problem. I'm not using any IR stuff. The tivo just acts like it is not getting my commands. It will execute 2 or 3 then nothing, not light blinking or anything. Its impossible to do anything.

Have either of you tried unplugging your TiVos from electric power for a minute or two, and then plugging them back in?

Sometimes this "rebooting" can fix all sorts of problems.

If rebooting does not work, it could be a sign of the hard drive starting to fail.

Funny thing is that, again, is that the IR commands relaied to the cable box are not an issue. It is purely Tivo commands: TiVo button, Guide, pg up, pg dn, etc. The orange light on the Tivo box shows that it is recieving the command right when i issue the command on the remote. It just takes 15-23 seconds for it to execute.

Is it possible to take the drive out and run SpinRite from GRC (Steve Gibson) to test it? Or just Yank the drive and replace it with something from Weaknees?

But I have nt had any problems with playback of any recorded program, just getting the stinkin commands to execute in a timely manner.

I've power failed it for about 10 minutes. Cleared everything. I haven't yet chosen/removed channels fromt the guide yet because each remote buttton click takes 15-3 seconds to execute.

OK. It seems that the consensus, both here and a few other places, is that I need to replace the HD.

Thanks

It's probably a Quantum QuickView drive, you can down load the powermax test utility from www.maxtor.com, burn the download to a CD, then install the Tivo drive in a PC and boot from the CD.
