Slow transfer

Hi, Just got a series 2. Im using a wireless network connection and transferring shows to my computer takes as long as recording them. Is this normal? Also, While transferring, my internet access slows to a crawl even on the other computers in the house. Is this normal? Would setting up a separate network for the Tivo and my media server help ? Thanks

Are you using Wireless b or Wireless g. The TiVo transfers faster than b but slower than g. If you have g, it should not slow down internet access because the TiVo should not use all the bandwidth. If you are using the media server as well, this could start to use all the available bandwidth.
