Describe in more detail. Are you connecting thru Telco line or Internet? Did you activate your TIVO account before trying to set it up?

Another question...
When you say "download programming", do you understand that the basic use of a TiVo is to record TELEVISION? (As in by antenna, cable, or satellite.)
The downloading of programming off the internet is a secondary function sort of tacked on later (for which there's still very little programming), and which you have to jump thru hoops to get, including hooking your TiVo up to a computer (either thru wired or wireless means).

sorry I am new at this. When you turn on the TV and go to the channel it dose not show what is on or the description, it says to be announced. When you go to the phone settings to connect to the I guess tivo computers to get the programing for the next two weeks which we have to do. When it gets to the downloading the phone connection disconnects.
What it seems to be doing is after the down loading is about done it automatically shuts off before it gets done. I have changed the dial in numbers, by the way I can only get connected to one number the others just won't pickup. I am sorry, but it is really hard to explain. If anyone can understand what I am trying to say and can help I will be forever grateful.

When the TiVo is downloading (and using the phone) no one in the house can pick up the phone. If that happens, the TiVo will disconnect from the phone line and try again later. The call to get two weeks worth of guide data may take 10-20 minutes or more. The TiVo may also be trying to download a software update which may take 90 minutes or more. If it is doing this, it may not get the guide data until the download is complete.
Do you leave the TiVo connected to your phone line all the time?
What model TiVo do you have?
Did the TiVo ever have guide data for the shows?
How long has this problem been happening?

How long has this problem been happening?....and if you have call waiting it can knock a modem off-line when a second call comes in.
