View Full Version : Another 2 tivos tale of woe

I have two tivos - both have happily coexisted with one running tivoweb, and one tivowebplus. They have worked seamlessly on the network and I was able to do all those things that we can't talk about here with no issues at all. Then Tivo1's hard disk died.

I went for a large disk upgrade but when it came to backing up the old drive, it was well and truly dead, and would not create an image. However, I had an image of Tivo2 so I used that.

Both tivos now have different IP addresses (I remembered to change tivo1 as it had been created from an image of tivo2) and operate on different ports as well. However, both machines now frequently fall off the net and I have to reboot to bring them back on line.

I've tried changing the hubs and switches to no avail, and the only thing I can think is that there is another configuration setting that is duplicated on both machines, causeing them to conflict. Anybody got any suggestions please?

You need to change the MAC address on one of them. Disconnect one of them from the network, run nic_config_tivo on the other one and change the MAC address so that there is at least one different character in the string, save and exit and restart that TiVo. Plug the other one back in and all should (hopefully) be OK.

Mike, many many thanks. the MAC addresses were indeed the same. I'm just waiting on a reboot and hopefully my stability will be back!!
