First let me say that I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I am getting a new HD Tivo from DirecTV. I currently have an old Tivo series 2 with DirecTV.
Is there any way to copy/move the existing shows I have on my old box to my new one?
Thanks in advance!

Only if both boxes are hacked.

No, I'm afraid not. But you can keep your old DirecTivo to watch those shows, even if it doesn't have an active subscription. Of course, many of us have kept our older DirecTivo's active even after getting the HR10-250 HD DVR.

i'm in the same boat. My new HD Tivo gets installed Monday. I expect that the only way (short of some type of hack) would be to use the old dtivo as a source, and simply record on the new HD one.
I am not looking forward to recording each show one by one, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyone have any other idea?

That won't work either. The HR10-250 HD DVR does not have any audio/video inputs to record from an external source, even another DirecTV DVR. But you can simply keep your old DVR and watch its shows, even if it's no longer "active" with a DirecTV subscription. If you don't want to keep it after you've watched its recordings, you can sell it on eBay.

I still use my two series 1 DirecTV TiVos along with the HR10-250. I really hate using valuable drive space for SD content.

thanks - i appreciate the help. I should still be able to dump everything off to dvd. Assuming I am able to operate the R10 (for playback only) without my access card in it - can anyone confirm that?
thanks

Yes, assuming you're using a standalone DVD Recorder connected to your R10 like you would connect a VCR. But I think your R10 still needs its access card. There's no need to remove its access card because your new DVR will come with its own access card.

Just keep the old unit around (deactivated) until you watch or burn to DVD all the shows then unhook it. I have a DirecTiVo still in the living room for just that reason. I still need to burn about half a season of Big Brother and about 5-6 adult movies :D before I put it away.

Thanks everyone for the input! We will just keep the old box around until we no longer remember what's on it...then probably get rid of it.
