When I got my first TiVo over 2 years ago (a 140 hour 240 series unit), we had it hooked to a Mitsubishi tube TV and all was fine. On the Mits, volume control worked as expected, if you held the volume button down, it would continuously adjust the volume.

Then, about a year and a half ago we got a Samsung 32" CRT HDTV monitor and the TiVo remote would only change the TV volume 1 step for each press of the remote button. This has been very annoying and I even tried all the other Samsung remote codes but had no success.

Just last month, we upgraded again to a Samsung DLP TV and the issue persists with the new TV. We had also moved the Samsung CRT to the bedroom where we have a Humax unit that we had gotten about a year ago. I found to my surprise that the Humax remote WOULD continuously alter the volume up/down. I also tried the Humax remote on the Samsung DLP as well and it worked the same.

So, my question is, can I buy a new TiVo remote and expect it to work like the newer Humax remote or would it work like the old one that came with the S2-240 unit?

I would appreciate feedback from anyone with a recent Samsung TV and a newer 540 or DT units and especially from anyone who has purchased a replacement remote from TiVo.

BTW, I'm planning on getting the S3 when they come out so I hope this issue is fixed with the new remotes. I do plan on keeping my S2 unit as backup for analog channels and expected to be able to use the S3 remote on the S2 as well. However, I noted from the photos posted from CES that the S3 remote does not have a DVR switch like the S2 remotes have. I hope it's just hidden on the new ones and I'll still be able to control both with the S3 remote.

You can try a new remote. Very likely it will work, and very liekly the S3 remote will have an even more updated code database.

Yes this very command with universal & oem remotes when it comes to samsung tv's, they're using the wrong protocol in the remotes, at one time it was the right one, but samsung changed it. Remotes from here on out should have the corrected code, which is either 0305 or 0306.

No you shouldn't expect to get a tivo remote with most upto date library of codes, one tivo remote looks like another, can't tell them apart from old stock. Unless it has newer brands like toshiba or humax on them.
