View Full Version : Why did my DirecTiVos suddently stopped receiving Sat 101's odd transponders?

My setup: 3LNB dish -> 4/8 multiswitch -> four DirecTiVos

The happened yesterday and I only noticed it because channels 354, 356, 360,
and possibly a few other went blank. The on-screen menu says there's no
signal on sat input 1 or 2. I went into the sat signal menu and everything
seemed fine, until I discovered there are absolutely no signal from
the odd transponders on satellite 101.

DirecTV is sending out someone, but not until late next week.... is there
something that I can do to solve this? Is it possible that the extreme heat
in the last few days "fried" my multiswitch in the attic? Outside temps have been
99 to 103, and even hotter in the attic....

Thanks for your help! :)

Usually, its the even TPs that get lost. Is this happening on all receivers? Your title implied this.

Try a restart. Then bypass the multiswitch to verify that the LNB is still working properly.

But, my guess is that the multiswitch has failed.

I've lost either even or odd a couple times when I had DishNetwork,
replacing the connectors on the coax (outside, exposed to the elements) fixed it both times.

This was in the olden days, before they had waterproof compression connectors, just the basic crimp connectors.

Usually when the odds go its a phenomenon we know as splitter interference, or in this case, if there is no splitter , perhaps one of the lines between your multiswitch and dish is having a problem, this would duplicate the effects. Hope this helps and I second Jimspence on his possible diagnosis as well, both events are possible.

I have a somewhat related issue... we had a bad storm Saturday, after which I have received no signal on my Philips Tivo or on my additional box upstairs. Tried bypassing the multiswitch straight from the dish into both tuners on the Philips... still get no channels, but when I go through the test, I get signal on all odd transponders, but nothing on Even. Does that mean I have a bad LNB ?

Thanks.

I have a somewhat related issue... we had a bad storm Saturday, after which I have received no signal on my Philips Tivo or on my additional box upstairs. It could be water in one of the connectors on the dish. Check each connection outside the house for water. You should either have a rubber boot over each connection or use some sort of silicon base grease on the connectors.
