I upgraded my SVR-2000 from a 30 gig drive to a 200 gig drive. After the upgrade everything works fine for about 2-3 weeks. Then strange things started to happen. For example, I start watching a show and half way through the show stops. Other times the show is in the Now Playing list but I go to play it and there is not to play. I then try to delete that show and I get an error deleting… but then the show is gone. At first the problems were few and far between. But over time this problems become more frequent. Then the unit will not even boot any more. I have rebuilt the TIVO twice. Both times that unit goes through this.

I used Mfs Tools with large drive support. Here is the command I used to backup the 30 gig drive….

mfsbackup –f 9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

Here is the command I used to restore the drive to the new 200 gig drive.

mfsrestore –s 127 -xzpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdb

Once the new drive was up and working in the TIVO I then deleted all the existing shows.

Any thoughts?

You know the original kernel needs to be copykern'ed to handle the larger drives, right? http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/printthread.php?t=198444

I am pretty sure I did that. The drive reports the correct size on the unix boot screens.

Thanks

I assume you mean the linux bootcd you are using; but that's not the issue. You should use the latest free lba48 bootcd from ptvupgrade and you must specifically run the 'copykern' command to install the correct lba48 kernel on your tivo necessary for accessing drives >137GB (lba48). The thread referenced above has all the info.
