Ok the remote on our series 2 samsung started acting up this morning. It will turn our TV on and off fine, and will adjust the volume on our AV reciever but does nothing for the Tivo. The LED on the Tivo doesnt light up when pressing buttons on the remote. We replaced the batteries and still no change. Any suggestions, my wife unplugged the Tivo and plugged it back in to force it to reboot.

Direct TV....right?

Is your little black tv/sat switch towards the bottom of the remote set right?

Yep, made no sense. Its the usual peanut remote. Wife called DTV and they are shipping a new remote for $15. I had my wife reset the remote codes for our TV and AV receiver and suddenly it started working for the Tivo again?!?!? Oh well a spare never hurts.

Have you tried removing the batts for a minute and putting them back in? I have a TiVo remote that does this from time to time and just doing that fises it.

Tonight when I got home I re reprogrammed the remote to control our AV receiver and it still worked, then I added the TV and poof, I could turn the TV power on and off but the Tivo and AV receiver no longer worked. So I reset the remote again and tried programming it TV first then AV and again the Tivo and AV stopped working. So i reset it and just programmed the AV and the Tivo is still working, so we have to turn the TV on and off manually.

So hopefully the new remote fixes it? Dam#$#est thing I have ever seen.

Are you programming the remote this way:

1. press and hold DTV & TV POWER until the light remains on, enter the TV code
2. press and hold DTV & MUTE, enter the AUD rec code
3. press and hold DTV & TV POWER, enter the AUD rec code again.

I wonder if there is a mismatch (somehow) between the Tivo address and the remote address?

Along these lines. I just got a refurb R10 through D* and I've noticed occassionally, there's a good 10 second lag between hitting the remote buttons the box actually performing the function. Could this be an remote issue or an R10 issue? It doesn't happen always, but it has happened 2 or 3 times over the last 2 days. I changed batteries, and it didn't help, but eventually, it just started working right.

Is this the right sequence for an A/V receiver? The online help says:

Press and hold DTV & MUTE for receiver
Punch in Code
Try volume

If it doesn't work, repeat the above steps. That's a bit different from what you have.

I have a Sony A/V receiver and none of the codes for Sony work. Wife is giving me a hard time having to use two different remotes.

I've noticed lag on some of my units at different times. When it happens, look for the IR LED when you press a remote key.

If the IR LED flashes, then the tivo received the remote code, otherwise, it didn't. I've noticed that the DSR704/708 IR sensor doesn't have as much range as do the DVR40/80/120's.

If the IR LED does flash, then the tivo is most likely performing some internal functions (indexing, garbage collection, etc.) that are making it lag.

Yes, if you want to control the POWER of both TV & AUD rec, and the vol for AUD.

As for your sony receiver, you need to switch the codesets it responds to, if you can. Then the codes in the tivo remote will work, see this thread. (www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-sony/thread.cgi?4020)

Thanks for the link. Couple of questions before I attempt to change the codes:

1) What are they referring to by AV1 and AV2?

2) By changing the default codes on the Sony remote/receiver, will all of the current functionality of the Sony remote work as designed?

Hadnt tried it in exactly this order, will give it a shot.

My main problem is though, why should any programming of AV and/or TV have ane effect on the peanutsx ability to control the DVR?

Our new uuugly DTV Universal replacement came today, my wife isnt happy says its too big. Guess its a good thing DTV offered us a billing credit, otherwise she may have gotten Ill.....

If it's that white one...I CAN'T STAND IT! It's a universal type, the peanut style for the TIVO is specific to TIVO models. If you want that one, search e-bay for it...tons of sellers have them.

Its what sony calls their codesets, AV2 is what your receiver is set to, problem is only codes in the tivo remote are for receivers set to AV1. reason you need to switch.

Depends on what model of sony receiver you have. First when switching codesets, its two stage process, receiver & oem remote, if it can. See there are some models where the receiver can be switched, but not the oem remote. In that case is upto you tivo remote or oem remote?

Ok just in case anyone is interested. I finally figured out the problem with my peanut remote. If I set the TV(Volume, power etc) to use remote code 0163 (RCA Television, first code displayed, maybe it was 1063) then the remote flat out stops working to control the Tivo. It will control the TV and nothing else, regardless of switch position on the remote. I changed it to the last code displayed on screen for an RCA tv (2201 or somethign similar) and bingo the remote worked for TV and Tivo, then I programmed the AV reciever and its all working again. Werid.

I had the same problem with my remote yesterday. All of the TV functions worked but not the TiVo. Same thing with a second remote, so I knew it was not the remote. Tried the buttons on the R10 unit to restart. They were locked up too. Had to pull the plug for a restart, then the remotes started working again....wierd.
