Yesterday I had a program set to record at 6PM. Sortly before that the lights went out and the show obviously did not record. The same episode of the show was set to re-air at 11 PM and it recorded that episode even though I hadn't had that one programmed in. Does Tivo know enough to do this?

When the power came back on and the Tivo restarted it saw that it had not recorded your program and put it back on the todo list. Yup. It's that smart.

Apparantly it is smart enough.
Just like if a conflict would have existed and a higher ranked SP was on at the same time as the original airing, the TiVo would have grabbed the re-air,
unless another higher ranked SP conflicted with that one.

I'm not surprised. Ignoring all of the (albeit minor) problems with the software, the thing is very smart. It impressed me significantly the first time that it decided to pick up a later airing of a new show because it had a conflict.

too bad the R15 will probably never reach levels like this... i'm glad i have 4 DTiVo units, just in case one goes bad i don't have to rely the R15.

Yes, this is the right and normal behavior of your TiVo for a SP or Autorecord WL. If it were a single recording (one check mark in todo), it would *not* have recorded the later showing.

Tivo really is that smart! I caught my tivo putzing about with an old vector calculus textbook, next thing I know, it was recording shows on mathematics under the guise of "tivo suggestions."
I saw something in its logs about "skynet going live," but I'm not sure what that's about...
Yes, it is that that smart. I have experienced the same when the original recording does not happen due to power or cable outage. In addition to my Series 2 Tivo, I also have a DTV Tivo, and it does the same if a program is lost due to heavy rain obscuring the satellite signal.
