View Full Version : Upgrade Problem

I've just upgraded the HDD in my TiVo. It was originally a twin drive unit from the factory but I upgraded it to a single 120Gb HDD about 2 years ago with no problems. I have now upgraded to a nice new 300Gb HDD and my recording time has gone down to 12 hours best quality.
To do the upgrade I followed all the instructions in the Upgrade Diary (http://www.steveconrad.co.uk/tivo/upgrade3.html) and everything seemed to be fine. There was no problem with the drive registered as being only 10Mb, so no need to unlock it I assume.

Should I redo just the restore, or do both the backup & restore?
Any ideas as to what went wrong?

Other than the lack of recording space everything seems to be working, but recordings keep getting deleted as the HDD gets to the 12 hours point.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mark.

12 hours best sounds like Tivo still thinks you have a 40G drive in there.
Is the new drive seen as 300g when booting into the upgrade disk.

Not sure what would have caused this. I'd sugggest redoing the backup.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have now got the upgrade fully working and 'think' I know why I was having problems.

I was only getting about 10.5 hours recording (not 12 as I said).
I was useing a very old PC and I don't think the BIOS recognised a HDD larger than 32Gb. After the TiVo restore the HDD was seen as 32Gb, even when in an external case and on my newer PC running XP with NTFS HDD. So I did what I was trying to avoide and started pulling my main PC to pieces and plugged a spare FAT32 boot HDD into it and did the backup on there, and it worked first time.

Well even if the above is not exactly why it wasn't working fully, at least it is now.
