Hard Reset HDVR2??

I have a Hughes HDVR2 that started skipping and pausing every couple minutes whether I am watching live TV or a recording.
I tried the reset from the on-screen menu and it is stuck at "clearing and deleting everything..this may take up to an hour"

Well, it's been on that screen about 12 hours now, so I unplugged it for a couple minutes and it restarts to the same screen.

Is there some kind of a hard reset I can do or should I start shopping for a HD DVR.

a new Hard drive makes more sense
you can either DiY with software from ptvupgrade.com or get a HD with software pre-installed from weaknees.com or ptvupgrade.com
