I just bought another dual tuner Directivo and would like to have two of them hooked to one television. I thought I could just hook up a 2-way splitter to each of the 2 cables coming from the multiswitch in my attic and connect them to both Directivos, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Do I have to have a total of 4 separate cables coming from the multiswitch (with 2 going to each Directivo)? Can you not split the signal from one of these cables into each Directivo?

Unfortunately the multiswitch is full and I'd have to buy a bigger one if that's the case.

Thank you

You can take the two cables and put them into a 2x4 multiswitch, but you will only get the 101 satelitte that way. You cannot (generaly) use splitters.

You can daisy chain multiswitches.

Yea, what I said. :)

Can you explain what you mean and what I need to get to make this work and how to do it? Thanks Indy

Reread post #2 above. You need to get a 2x4 multiswitch and connect it to the two lines from the attic. This will give you the four outputs needed for two TiVos. As noted above, you will be limited to access from the 101 sat. Which is okay if that's all you need.

Thanks.

To further explain what I have here:

- I just bought an HD Television.
- I also bought an HD Directivo
- I already had a SD Directivo

- I currently have a dual LNB dish. Directv is coming out Thursday to install a Triple LNB dish so that I can receive their HD channels.
- I'm getting my locals via OTA antenna.

So, can you tell me, once I have the 3 LNB dish, what exactly I'll need to do in order to have both the HD Directivo and the SD Directivo hooked up to the same TV? Is it the same thing you said earlier - get a 2x4 multiswitch, hook it up to 2 coax cables coming out of the multiswitch in my attic, and then attach 4 cables (2 cables each to the HD and SD Tivos)?

Will this allow me to view all my Directv channels? You mentioned I would only see the 101 satellite and I'm not really sure what that means. I am not real familiar with the workings of satellites.

Bottom line is I want to be able to view and record HD programs thru the HD Tivo and record SD shows thru the SD Tivo on the same TV. The reason for this is because I want to be able to record many programs and don't want to fill up the HD Tivo.

I hope this makes sense and thanks alot!

If you are scheduled to have EVERYTHING installed (all 3 receivers are listed on the work order), then they will install a Phase III dish. Then run all 4 cables to a 4x8 cascadable switch. 4 cables run from the switch to your HDTV. Connect 2 cable to HR10-250. Connect the other 2 cables to the SD DirecTivo. Connect remaining cables to remaining receivers. Connect each DirecTivo to a different input on the TV. I have this exact setup with an HR10-250 and a GXCEBOT.

Before you even ask, read the owner's manual on setting remote control addresses.

3LNB dish has a built in multiswitch, and 4 outputs, this can run 2 dual tuner DirecTiVo's.

You need coax from all 4 connections at the dish run to the room your DirecTiVo's reside.

Or 4 cables from the new dish to the distribution point in your attic,
then a 4x8 multiswitch (for future expansion) hooked to those 4 lines,
hook your existing 2 cables to 2 outputs of that switch, then run 2 additional cables from that switch to the room in which both DirecTiVo's reside.

Anyway you look at it, you will need new runs of cable.

Will this allow me to view all my Directv channels? You mentioned I would only see the 101 satellite and I'm not really sure what that means. I am not real familiar with the workings of satellites.

Most of DirecTV's programming is on the 101 satellite, but much of the HD programming is on the other 2 that the 3lnb dish looks at.
You need the HD DirecTiVo connected directly to the dish (or through a 4-input X-output multiswitch (x being 6,8,10,12) to see all the channels that it is capable of recording.

If you aren't planning on getting any more DirecTV receivers, you can hook directly to the 4 ouputs on the dish, no multiswitch required.

Thank you for all the info. I assume the tech will install a 4x8 switch to hook everything up? I'm not sure but I believe the switch in the attic now is a 2x8. And I currently have a total of 4 Dual tuner tivos in the house (3 SD and the 1 HD)

And it's funny you mentioned setting the remote control addresses because right before I logged on here just now I had set them for the 2 different remotes.

So I guess I'll wait for the tech and see what all is done. Thanks

Since you need more than 4 lines, the tech should bring a 4x8 switch to replace your 2x8 and run all cables needed to the TV (2 extra for the new TiVo). However, you should verify that they know you need a 4x8 switch.

And hope that your attic isn't too hot for the Tech to work in.

Hopefully they should know since they know how many Directivos I have. I assume they will only need to run a total of 2 more lines since I already have six lines going to the other dvrs.

The attic is only 140 degrees or so, so he should be good to go. :p

I was up there myself yesterday hooking up my OTA antenna and lost a few pounds in the process.

DirecTV may know what you have, but that info may not get passed on to whatever installer they use in your area.

Good idea. I'll call them and let them know my setup.
