Hi,

I want to move to a location in the US where Direct TV does not offer local feeds so I can keep my distant networks? Are there such places?

Thanks

When I moved they did not say anything about my distant networks, was able to keep them at my new location, but also can not get a signal on an antenna at the new location.

You need to find an address in a 'white area'. There used to be a qualification page on DirecTV's website, but now i can't find it..

just go here and start pluggin in different zip codes around you (rural areas work best) and when you find one that automatically qualifies all four your set. you'll want to make sure you stay in your DMA though or you'll loose your "actual" local channels.

You CAN'T do this anymore - if you are in ANY DMA that does offer LIL, you CANNOT get distants now - period, end of discussion. ONLY people that already had distants within their LIL DMA get to keep them (for now), but NO new subs can do this. It's all there in the SHVIERA - bottom line, it's EITHER your locals or distants...

If you don't believe me, then maybe you should have read THIS on D* eligibility page:

Out-of-market network affiliates are available only to customers who do not live in an area where DIRECTV offers local channels and who cannot receive an over-the-air signal of a primary station affiliated with a network of at least grade B intensity, as defined by the Federal Communications Commission.

i did read that.... but as that statement reads, i shouldn't be receiving DNS (since i also pay for and receive LIL), when in fact i do... east and west actually. so i was only suggesting he try to stay in his DMA so just maybe an unknowing CSR let him have both.

there is no need to attack me personally for providing the information he was asking for... if he can get it to work, great... if not, no harm in trying.

That's because, as I just said, YOU had both BEFORE the law changed this. (you are grandfathered with this) As long as you don't drop them, you shouldn't loose them. BUT, the wonderful broadcasters will probably be getting this changed (again), so that eventually everyone that currently has distants w/LIL will end up loosing their distants - enjoy them while they last. :(

Uh...I didn't realize I was doing this - sorry, whatever...

Forgive me, why Dish? You would pretty much be in the same boat with them! I don't think they can offer you DNS services either..

as i said before..... the statement from directv.com that you were so quick to point out does not differentiate between grandfathered and new subscribers. which is my point exactly, just because its on D*'s website doesn't mean thats what some random CSR is going to follow and tell you. should they, sure... if thats the policy, but we all know that there are times when uninformed CSRs do things that aren't "by the book".

thanks for the condescending apology... gave me the warm and fuzzies.

in any case.... i was just surfing through this list (http://www.555us.com/555WY/555wy_zipcodes.htm) of wyoming zip codes and found a town with the same name as this guy below that qualified for all but one major network using the tool above.

There is a town in Wyoming who has the same name as a company famous for making razors which has at least one zip code that qualifies for ALL 4.

If you read up on some of the things regarding Dish and DNS that have happened over the last few weeks...

They are in a WORSE boat then DirecTV.. with regards to DNS

The city's aflood
And our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the satellites have no LIL's

While you can't get out of market DNS, you CAN get out of market HD-DNS.

If you have DNS, do you get BOTH LA & NY feeds?

Where I live, for years all we had were the LA/NY feeds. When local channels came online we given the option of keeping the distant feeds for a price or of course or dropping them. We were told that once we dropped them, they were gone for good. We decieded to keep the distant feeds. Costs about $13 or so a month.
