Is there a way to record a currently showing programme (including the all the live buffer if the tivo is on that channel) remotely?

Hi, If you schedule the recording via tivoweb it will automatically add the contents of the live buffer to the recording. One problem with this is that it will only be able to record the rest of the show in best quality.Just use the search function in the user interface part of tivoweb
hope this answers your question
cheers

One problem with this is that it will only be able to record the rest of the show in best quality. That "problem" is no different whether you're using the Tivo direct or using Tivoweb.
How about using the "Web Remote" option from the main menu of Tivoweb. Just press the RECORD button. You'll need to consider the things that Tivo will ask you after you've pressed record.
If you've got no clashing recordings due then you'd just have to press the RECORD button followed by the SELECT button. If you have a clashing recording due then it would ask you what to do about the clash. If you wanted to cancel the scheduled recording then the sequence would be RECORD, SELECT, SELECT.

Yeah, tried that but the web remote is pretty much useless unless you can see the screen. Is there another tivoweb module that allows you to do this?

the web remote is pretty much useless unless you can see the screen. Is there another tivoweb module that allows you to do this? Why would you think it's useless? When you press the RECORD button there's only two outcomes - you either have to press SELECT once, or twice if there's a recording scheduled within the time of the programme you're asking it to record.
I use a program called Digiguide that relies on this blind pressing of the keys to achieve these kind of things. It's able to record or watch the current show, and even setup a season pass.
If you go into "Now showing" in Tivoweb right after, you'll see if it's started recording.
Like you, I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be a regular manual recording or setup season pass menu that doesn't rely on the web remote though. Or we just didn't see it.

Or we just didn't see it.Because you have no way of knowing where in the menu system the tivo is. It could be in tivo central, now showing, it could be in standby etc etc. - then it won't work properly. Of the 10 times i tried it, it only worked once. If you have to change channels, forget it - its not quick enough to enter a 3 digit number accurately, but hey thats just me - if it works for you, then great.
There must be an easier, more reliable way? I can't seem to find it though.
All I want is a "Panic Button" equivalent to the record button on the remote lets you record whats in progress "at best" from the start of the buffer, or if its on the wrong channel, gives you the chance to switch to another channel and immediately begin recording that, and show if there are any conflicts.

If you have to change channels, forget it - its not quick enough to enter a 3 digit number accurately, but hey thats just me - if it works for you, then great. What my Digiguide app does is first send the Tivo key which guarantees it's in one of the top two menus, then it sends the live TV button, so now you're sure you're not in a tivo menu and you don't have the TV guide showing, and now it's ready for the RECORD, SELECT, SELECT. So the sequence would be TIVO, LIVETV, RECORD, SELECT, SELECT. I must admit I've never tried to do this across the Internet, only over my LAN. The channel changes almost certainly would be a problem.
There must be an easier, more reliable way? I can't seem to find it though.I'm equally amazed nobody has piped up with the proper way to do it in tivoweb. It's not like this is a bizarre and rare thing we're talking about here.

Yes exactly, how do you do that?
So the sequence would be TIVO, LIVETV, RECORD, SELECT, SELECT.
I guess that would work, but when you're in the pub and had a few beers then look up at the TV and realise that the show you're meant to record is on and you didn't set the Tivo, I'd probably never remember that! And then it wouldn't be safe going home...!
Even worse would be a similar situation where you CAN remember that and decide to record the second half of the footie for your mates, in case you miss it before you get to the next pub, but by pressing select twice you automatically cancel a recording that somebody else in the house made. Then it wouldn't be safe going home...!
There must be a way I can safely go home... its why i bought a cachecard!
