My brother-in-law currently has directv service. We got to talking and we thought about me taking his extra receivers and just splitting the bill. We just live right across the street from each other. I have two questions, 1. Is doing that legal, jail would suck, but since we are paying for it would that be ok. 2. I have two Tivo's I would like to hook those boxes too. The questions is does Tivo randomly check and see if you are actually paying for what you are watching. When my Tivo would connect it would download the Directv guide also, since I don't actually have an account with them at this address, since I would be giving my brother-in-law a check would something be said.

Sorry for the long drawn out questions but cable here sucks and I would like Directv.

Technically, this is possible. Both of you would have to have dish and both would require DirecTV receivers. However, since DirecTV requires that the units be connected to the phone line, it is possible that they could discover two separate phone #s using the same account.

Oh, did I mention that this is illegal.

Well, I am glad you told me, I wasn't sure if it was illegal or not, so oh well. It was a good thought while it lasted.
