View Full Version : "Configuration Failed" connecting to Tivo service

I have a Tivo Series 2, works great, connected to my WiFi net, never a problem.

The one I bought my brother for Christmas is a problem child. We configured it for WiFi, it connects, it pulls DHCP (IP, mask, and DNS), it passes the connectivity test. When directed to connect to Tivo, it prepares for about ten minutes, seems to connect, says it is "Configuring" for about 10 minutes, the errors out with "Configuration Failed".

I don't think the network config is broke. It seems to get awfully far into the process to not be talking to the network. His laptop works fine on the same WiFi setup. We configured for a static .90 address, just to see if getting off DHCP helped, and it failed in the same place: "Configuration Failed" 15 or 20 minutes into the process. Argh!

Tivo tech support read him the list of TCP/UDP ports to open, but we are not trying to get to the Tivo from outside the WiFi network, just to let the Tivo DVR contact Tivo service (outbound connection). The firewall on the combo WiFi/Router/Firewall is standard default stuff. Anything initiating outgoing is allowed on any port. Nothing is allowed to initiate inbound (same as mine, which works). From his laptop, he can open the web page on the Tivo's address.

What would cause a failure in contacting Tivo service that far into the process?
