can you plug in a usb flash drive into a tivo units USB port to use it as a exteranal memory unit?

No. The USB ports are ONLY for conectivity at this time.

Ha - on series 2 DirecTivo's the USB ports aren't even active unless you pull the hard drive and hack the unit.

Still, at that, you can only use the port for connectivity.
