My tivo has not been able to connect for over a month, and obviously is now not able to record anything. As suggested to me earlier i tried to redo a guided setup and see if that worked, which it didn't, when i chose the option for the custom guided setup and tried connecting it would with out fail say it could not connect, i then tried the standard version, and it keeps telling me their is no dial tone, when in fact there is. I have a series 2 tivo, the phone line works, i've tried other phone numbers, taking out the phone cord and putting it in once tivo says it is dialing, i tried adding a comma as a prefix before dialing its number and still nothing works. Also in addition, i am currently having trouble actually getting out of the guided setup, there are no options to go back or get out of it. I try hitting live tv and it wont go, same with hitting the actual tivo icon, i unplugged it and still it came back to the guided setup, just the beginning of the guided setup. Please, any and all comments/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I think it is what Funtoupgrade pointed out in the other thread that the MODEM is dead This really sucks because most Series 2 TiVos the modem is built in and is not replicable.

The only solution for the dead MODEM that I can think of is to connect using a USB to Network adaptor. How do you connect your PC to the internet is it through DSL, Cable or a Dial-UP connection? If Dial-UP if you have a network card in the PC it may be possible to setup internet sharing allowing the TiVo can get its download through the PC.

I just want to verify.
The phone line going to the TiVo was checked and is working with a Phone or PC Modem.
The TiVo's connection settings are not set up for Network connection
The Dial prefix is NOT ,#401
Before turning off Dial Detect the error message was about not getting the Dial Tone.
and now you are stuck in "guided setup" I missed which model of TiVo you have.
