I have been getting the blue "Your tivo is too hot" screen repeatedly.

I have a Series 1 Phillips and the fan appears to be running fine as I can hear it and feel it working.

I have tried unplugging the tivo for long periods of times and trying again, but this has not worked and the "too hot" message comes up immediately every time.

I have tried using a power cord from a working tivo and that has not worked either.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

That thread did not end up helping.

Do you have any other suggestions for how to solve my problem?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.It would be helpful if you would tell us what the temperature is (before you get the blue screen.)

Where do your keep your TiVo (is it well ventilated)?
Is the fan spinning?

The tivo is definitely well ventilated and the fan is definitely spinning - I can hear it see it and feel it.

I can't tell what the temperature is b/c as soon as i plug the tivo in, w/in seconds the "too hot" message comes up.

Any reason this message could be coming up even though the tivo actully isn't too hot?

Any other suggestions?

If I need to get my tivo fixed, what kind of price am I looking at?

Thanks for the help!

You could try using a can of compressed air to blow the dust/dirt from inside the Tivo. You would have to open the case of the Tivo and use the canned air to blow the dust off the motherboard, ect. Then put the case back on and try booting it up again.

I'm not saying this will fix your problem, but it's cheap and doesn't require a lot of time or risk.

If you get the message that fast, then most likely either the thermal switch is bad or there's too much dust inside your unit.
