My tivo started acting up last night. It will continue to reboot itself.

When it gets to the screen 'Just a few minutes more...' it reboots itself every time and starts over.

  The unit is 3 years old.

Mine died last week too. It's my third one. At least DirecTV replaces them for free.

Replace the hard drive.

Mine too did this yesterday. You recommend replacing the hard drive. SO, do I just buy a new hard drive and put it in, or is there a procedure?

You need to either purchase a preloaded hard drive from weaknees or PTVupgrade. See ads at top of page.

You can also use Instantcake from PTVupgrade to load your own hard drive.

Or you can come up with your own image and load it using mfstools. There is lots of information available in the stickys at the top of the upgrade forum.

I searched for the preloads and upgrade information. I decided not to spend any money on this unit because I have two others. I called Tivo last night to deactivate the subscription on it, and Tivo is sending me a FREE unit! Thats a better deal than me spending money to fix this one.

Did Tivo require a one year commitment for the Tivo to be free?

No, they did not.
